Self-help Books - The Unparalleled Advantages Of Reading Self-Help Books To Improve Your Life

It is true that self-help seminars and workshops can do a lot to help you get a better self esteem. It is also true that going to a life coach or a counselor or psychologist for training can work well for some.
However, the only thing that can accompany you wherever you go is self-help books, and there are many available on the market by renowned authors. Since the problems of low self esteem are not predominant in America alone, but all around the world, it should not be too hard for you to get your hands on a good self-help book, wherever you may be.
Self-help books need not always be on increasing self esteem directly. One look through a book shop’s self-help section will show that you can buy books on hobbies like photography and cooking, and on personal help like doing better at relationships and at work. All these will however help you with better self esteem in the long run. So, there is a self-help book for you, whatever the goals that you set for your self may be.
As human beings, we are superior to all other living things on the planet and one of the things that prove this is our ability to effect change on our surroundings. So do get a self-help book on whatever it is that you would like to change, and put what you learn from these books into affect.
Soon you will see a positive change in your life, and the feelings of accomplishment that come with this can work wonders for your self-image. So many self-help books have been published to date that it is not a problem finding one on whatever topic you may have in mind. In fact you may face a bigger problem selecting one or two books out of the dozens to choose from.
Self-help books are a great thing to carry if you travel a lot. Not only do they help you pass your time constructively they are easy to carry and store. As sophisticated and miniature that palmtop computers have gotten today, the feel of a good book in your hands can never be replaced by a computer, and any one accustomed to handling books will confirm that.
We may get so preoccupied in our day to day problems that it is not always easy to take out the time to attend a self improvement seminar or lecture. But we can all at least take out the time and money to get a good self-help book. After all, it is for our own improvement that we do this, so do take the time and effort to get your hands on a book of this sort.
Self-help is a huge subject area for writers. Pick any bestseller list, and you’ll find the self-help books feature heavily in the top ten nonfiction books in any week of the year. Everyone wants motivation and inspiration.
So what does this mean to you as an ebook writer? Basically it means that you should be looking at the self-help area carefully, especially when it comes to article writing and ebook development.
In this article, we’ll discuss finding topics for self-help ebooks which are easy for you to write, and to sell.
Ebooks aren’t as long as print books, so they’re fast to write. I’ve noticed that in the past year, shorter ebooks of 50 to 90 pages are selling well. Assuming that you get 250 words per page, a 50-page ebook is just 12,500 words. You should be able to get such an ebook written in a week.
The best topics for you are those in which you have some experience. When you’re experienced in an area, it means that you know the basics - you’re not starting from scratch. It’s also an area in which you have a strong interest, and projects for topics in which you’re interested are always much easier to write.
Make a list of self-help topics you’ve explored in the past, or are currently involved with. For example, if you’re trying to lose weight or get fit, those are prime self-help areas. So is anything to do with spirituality.
Let’s look at three ways you could find topics for a self-help ebook.
1. What self-help topics are you interested in?
Start with your own interests. For example, you may be interested in stress relief, time management, writing (yes, you can include writing in the self-help field), and financial management.
Make a list of any topics you’re interested in currently.
Also list any self-help topics you’ve been interested in in the past. You may have joined a gym at some stage, and been interested in fitness. Perhaps you’ve just had a baby, and read lots of “baby” books while you were happily pregnant. Perhaps you explored alternative medicine.
A tip: if you’re writing an ebook on any topic connected with health, have the ebook vetted by a health professional before you offer it for sale. It’s vital that you give good information.
2. Make a list of challenges you’ve overcome
Your own challenges are also a prime area in which you can find ebook topics.
Perhaps you’ve been broke, and have paid off all your debts - debt management is a great topic for an ebook. Or perhaps you’ve suffered a health challenge and have overcome it. If this is your story, share it with others.
3. What’s on Amazon’s bestseller list?
I love the Amazon bestseller list - it’s always crammed with self-help books, and they can give you excellent ideas for self-help ebooks.
For example, I’ve just checked over the list, and found books on life management, finding a purpose for your life, guilt-free eating, and attracting wealth.
Any of those topics have many sub-topics which you could explore in an ebook.
Here’s a bonus tip. Self-help ebook ideas are everywhere. Check out what your friends are reading, and what challenges they’re facing. Your next ebook could be just a conversation away.
Happy writing - self-help ebooks are a goldmine. Get yourself a shovel, and start digging for gold today.
There are times when we wish to do our healing work with a counselor or other professional, and there are times when self-help better meets our needs.
Whether you use energy work, journaling, meditation, or any other self-healing approach, there are a number of things that you can do to ensure that you achieve the most growth and healing possible, from your self-healing sessions.
1.) Choose a focus.
Begin by choosing an issue that you wish to heal.
If you struggle with identifying specific areas you want to focus upon, you may find it helpful to keep a small notebook with you. Whenever you notice a pattern, issue or concern that you would like to feel better about, quickly jot a note down to yourself so that you will remember it later.
Going through personal journals you keep - or emails you have sent to others - is another way that you can identify areas you would like to heal.
2.) Make your healing a priority.
Set aside the time - preferably regularly - where you will focus upon your healing. Write it into your schedule so that you make a commitment to setting this time aside and do not forget.
Alternatively, build self-healing work into your day: a 15 minute healing session in the morning when you first wake up, at the end of the day, or at any other time that feels right to you, can be a wonderful way to get yourself moving forward and feeling better.
3.) Give yourself the time and space you need.
One of the reasons that people often find that they get more out of healing sessions guided by a professional is simply that they focus much more deeply during those sessions. This is partially because a space is created in which outside distractions are not permitted.
Whether you choose to set aside an hour or a smaller amount of time, create a comfortable space in which to do your self-healing work. Find somewhere that you can sit or lie down comfortably. Make an effort to minimize distractions - turn the phone, television or computer off, and ensure that you have the time that you need to accomplish the personal work you would like to get done.
4.) Have everything you need, close at hand.
This may include Kleenex, a glass of water, a warm soft blanket, or pen and paper to write down thoughts or insights that come up during the process that you wish to address or make note of.
Have any healing resources that you have found to be beneficial nearby. If you have a self-help book or journal you find to be particularly helpful, you may want to refer to it. Pictures of loved ones or of peaceful scenes of times and places that you felt loved and safe, may also be beneficial.
5.) Plan to do something nurturing afterwards.
Part of healing involves experiencing greater love and compassion for oneself. You can begin to put this in motion both during and immediately after your healing session.
This is particularly important if you have chosen to focus upon healing something that feels “big” or particularly painful. In all likelihood if you stick with the process, you will feel much calmer, better, and more peaceful than you would have thought possible prior to the healing session beginning.
However, the biggest obstacle that people sometimes find with self-healing work is that if they start to feel upset, they may suddenly decide to stop the process. They suddenly find themselves distracted, or they decide the issue is “too big” to tackle alone.
If the issue is too big, seek professional support as needed. However, in most cases simply taking a moment and reassuring yourself, using any self-help skills you have found particularly helpful, and focusing upon your breathing while thinking comforting thoughts or using helpful imagery, will help you to quickly move past the current upset.
Let yourself know that if upset is encountered, you can handle it and move through it gently. Make the decision and commitment to yourself to do this, so that this moment will be the last time that this incident, issue or experience, feels so upsetting to you.
You owe yourself the greater peace that you will feel if you stay on track with the process. It can be easier to stick with a self-healing session if you are aware that you will be taking really good care of yourself afterwards - whether this is by going for a walk, calling a friend, reading a comforting book, or watching a favourite TV show or movie.
6.) Be kind to yourself.
In the absence of a supportive professional, be a support to yourself. If you booked a session with a therapist and during it she or he criticized you or gave you negative messages about your past or present difficulties - or your likelihood to heal from them - would you feel helped by that? Would you be interested in going back to do more work with them again? Not likely!
During your healing process, treat yourself the way that you would expect or want a friend, counselor, or therapist to treat you. Practice seeing yourself with compassion and understanding.
7.) If you can not - or will not - set aside specific periods of time to work on self-healing, take full advantage of any hidden moments that you do have.
Not every self-healing session needs to be done with the level of detail and care that is described above. Significant, profound healing can occur simply while going for a walk and focusing upon healing thoughts, affirmations and imagery.
Making it a habit to give yourself loving and compassionate messages on a regular basis, as you go about your day, can go a long way towards altering your overall outlook and emotional state.
8.) Know your limitations.
If it feels unsafe to you to process a particular personal issue on your own - or if you are currently feeling completely overwhelmed or unable to cope in general - it may be a greater act of self-help to make the decision to ask for assistance with your personal healing work. This help may come in the form of a trusted and supportive friend, support group, or skilled professional.
Know that there is a middle ground between going it entirely alone and being “in therapy”. You can choose to do mostly self-healing if that feels right to you, and still seek professional assistance occasionally, whether this is once a month, a few times each year, or simply as a one time session.
Even those people who enjoy the benefit of regular counseling or therapy sessions will get the most value and benefit from that work, and will they further accelerate their progress and healing by working on their concerns between professionally facilitated sessions.
Self-Help Home Based Businesses

Self-help is a great home Internet based business opportunity. People always want to improve themselves and their lot in life. Offering self help products that will help them to do this, especially without their having to let others know they’re working on it, and without their having to leave home to get started, offer a commonly successful home business opportunity.
Such products can include books, magazines, Web seminars or downloadable products such as e-books or PODS, and video or audio tapes or CDs. Whichever you choose to offer as a self-help entrepreneur, this can be a lucrative home Internet-based business opportunity.
The most popular topics in this arena, and the ones most commonly successful as a home Internet based business have to do with improving one’s love life, losing weight and shaping up, and making money. There are three ways of making these self-help publications ready to sell as your home Internet based business opportunity. You can write the books yourself, you can purchase the books written by others and through a book or media wholesaler, or you can hire someone to write them for you.
If you would prefer not having to worry about putting together the copy for these books and instead concentrate on the sales end of your home Internet based business opportunity, you can turn to the many book wholesalers and buy the books in bulk at wholesale prices, or have them drop shipped from the wholesaler but branded to your business. One self-help book wholesaler, for example, offers books on making money in mail order, thinking and growing rich, improving your memory, conversation tips made easy, growing rich almost while you sleep, improving your personality, self-hypnosis, mental mastery and tips on concentration, how to write ads that work for your business, how to make money at home, 100s of ways to make a fortune, and how to succeed in business.
While the wholesaler simply sells these books in bulk to you at a low cost so you can turn around, brand them as your own and resell them with a nice profit as your home Internet based business opportunity, the firm may also let you become a drop ship dealer. What this means is that you could, instead of selling that self-help book or books to the individual who wants to read it, you could turn around and sell it to another dealer who is selling it to a customer, taking the money from the dealer in return for which you would label the package as the dealer’s and send to the consumer from your location.
You could also find a drop ship wholesaler from whom you wouldn’t need to purchase any inventory for your home Internet based business opportunity. You simply take the book orders, pass them on to the wholesaler and that wholesaler puts your label on the box and sends the books to your customer. All you have to do for your home Internet based business opportunity to realize a profit is sell the books for more than the wholesale dealer charges you to send them to your customer, and provide the consumer contact information to the wholesaler. It’s that simple.

Self Help Books Are A Boon

Through self-help books one teaches oneself to be economically, emotionally and intellectually mature and independent. The whole process has a lot of psychological as well as spiritual base.
Self help books inculcate in the reader the spirit of self-reliance. There are of course likeminded support groups to lean on. It is not a partnership of dependence but of co-operation. Examples can be given of self-help legal practice, homespun advices and many more. In course of time self-help books are leading guides in the field of education as well as business. Psychology plays an important part in the writings of these self-help books. These books have led to self-help movements.
According to prominent psychiatrists the self-help books are quite distinct from the professional counterparts. The latter cannot provide friendship, emotional prop up, first hand experimental knowledge, self-identity, roles in life with a meaning and above all a sense of being belonged. Self-help books links people with any kind of health condition. It is especially applicable to those who are mentally unstable. However everything does not work for everyone. The same applies to these self-help books. People going through similar travails form lobby groups and by sharing problems many knots are untied. Actually self-help books bring about link with like minded people - contact between peers.
The self-help books are based on an ancient concept of autosuggestion. It is repeating to one self the magic words of `I can! I can!` The books are getting worldwide acclaim from humble beginnings. Self-help legal services are also expanding. The Internet is now an invaluable tool for the popularizing of self-help books. On a gigantic scale free information is being provided leading to self-empowerment.
The self-help concept, now being codified in books, has a long history. It goes back to 2,500 BC when we first come across the advice poems of Hesiod. It is an adaptation of Eastern philosophy and thought. The Stoics of Greece offered similar advice of awakening the powers of the self. The ideas are expressed in ancient proverbs of different cultures of the world from time immemorial. The word self-help found a place in legal parlance when it came to be acknowledged that a person has the right to plead his own case in court of law.
Nothing talks about self-help more lucidly than the famous saying `Heaven helps those who help themselves`. Samuel Smiles in the late 19th century authored the first book on personal development. The title was Self Help. This principle of self-help or autosuggestion is used widely in the treatment of curing alcoholics and the like. It is the self that cures and the self that destroys. It is a question of awakening the self. These self-help books advise certain techniques to achieve this goal.
In this field of work Dale Carnegie is a famous name in the first half of the 20th century. In 1936 he published his all time best seller - How to Win Friends and Influence People. It reflected his own successful battle against repeated failures. So far 50 million copies have been sold and continues to sell captivating each new generation. Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill also hit the market inspiring people about the power of thought.
Researches show that self-help books have captured the market in a big way covering a wide variety of topics form weight loss to friendship gain. One can teach oneself how to become even a politician and win laurels. There are critics who say that these are easy answers to difficult questions that cannot be really implemented.
Self-help audio books have been silently tuning up the minds of people around the world for many years. These days, superfast technologies allow you to comfortably download audio books within minutes and start your self-help audio books “mind massage” on the double.
That is if you’ve paid attention to the food-for-thought your mind’s been grabbing and chewing on from what’s out there.
Do you think many people take notice about what gets into their minds? And do you think many of them take control of how their mind processes it towards a better outcome?
That’s where self-help audio books play a significant role. Because they can provide you, the listener, with better-quality input and how-to ideas to overcoming challenges. You just simply never know what new doors open when you download MP3 audio books with better food for your thoughts.
After all, the mind is the single most significant cause in shaping who you are and what you do as an individual.
If your mind is overall upbeat and resourceful, you have the core building blocks to becoming an “improved you” as opposed to having a widespread down-the-slumps thinking.
In contrast, a negative-mind environment unnecessarily increases the likelihood of you spending mega efforts on doing anything in life. Analyzing the lives of some of the most notorious people in the world reveals that they always fed their minds with negative thoughts.
You’ve heard this probably million times, haven’t you?
When you look around at examples of successful people today you’ll notice they’ve taken a good chunk of time to work on improving their minds. Scores of them have used any help they could put their paws on. Self-help audio books recordings are among them.
The question that pops up is this: “Are we born with positive or negative minds?”
What’s your answer to that question?
Research suggests that we develop our minds by what we feed them with. Stuffing “the negative” into our minds repeatedly results in cultivating negative views and eventually negative actions.
So, if you want to build creative ideas and views, it simply makes sense to always seek and get the right information into your mind.
The most common way to do this is to select the right books to read.
Sadly, though, who’s got the time today to read lots of books regularly?
We barely have the time to read the newspapers and magazines while gulping down our breakfast, lunch or supper. And guess what? Most newspapers only end up giving us bad-’n-sad news that further swells up a negative state of mind.
So, are you up to getting positive and helpful information without having to scrape extra time to do that?
Look into the self-help audio books. They are popular because they are helpful and they fit people’s schedules without radical adjustments.
Today, you can enjoy instant benefits of downloadable MP3 audio books while exercising, commuting to your work.

Do Self Help Books Help?
28.04.2009
28.04.2009
What if self help books just help the self which creates your problems in the first place? I’ll get back to that in a moment. First I want to say that many such books certainly can be helpful. A book on how to speak in front of a crowd can help with that, for example, and a book on how to eat or exercise better can be valuable as well.
But then there are the books that are meant to help you become a “better” person in general. These are the ones about self esteem, motivation, attitude and self image. Do these make your life better? Some are useful, but there is one glaring flaw in many of them.
The problem I am referring to is the excessive focus on the “ego” self, as though helping that grow stronger or “better” is somehow an improvement. Some books recommend affirmations, for example, which you use to convince yourself that you are strong, wealthy, or healthy, without reference to reality. But what a fragile sort of confidence you gain when it is based on this sort of posturing.
Wouldn’t it be better to have the capacity to be happy and at peace even if you are weak, poor, and ill? There is certainly nothing wrong with pursuing strength, wealth and health, but being attached to these outcomes as an important part of who you are creates a lot of unnecessary stress and suffering. Yet this is what many “self help books” encourage you to do.
Do we really want to encourage our ego self? This is the self that creates an image of who we “should” be, and reminds us (painfully) when we don’t live up to that image. This is the self which tells us we need to impress others, to be “great” and to rush to achieve as much as we can to prove how “important” we are. It is forever comparing us to an ideal it invents and then making us suffer for not living up to it.
Following the advice of this false self is a recipe for anxiety and mental pain. Why, then, would we want self help books which encourage us to build it up, and to embrace it even more strongly, when letting it go is what we really need? We don’t need such books.
This touches on areas that are commonly called spiritual, but the label isn’t necessary. Simple honest observation can show us that whatever our true self consists of, there are also parts of us that encourage chasing false values based on what this ego self insists is important. Peace of mind is certainly more valuable than any of the temporary emotional highs we can get through that sort of “self help.”
When choosing and using self help books then, avoid those which plainly encourage the ego self. These include any which suggest that success is about making lots of money, being better than others, impressing people, improving your “self image” through pretenses, or in any way building up a “self” that can be torn down. Look for those which help you let go of the nonsense associated with this “created” identity, and help you act from a deeper purpose and sense of who you are.
There seem to be so many people today jumping on the new age bandwagon of self-improvement and personal development. Some of the bestselling self-help books are by authors who are reportedly helping people change their lives, feel happier and learn to love themselves. The problem is that not everyone has the time to get to the bookstore to buy the books, let alone find a quiet place and moment to be able to read them. Self-help audio books are a definite solution, with popular works being readily available for anyone to download any time of the day or night.
The beauty about choosing an self-help audio book instead of a hard copy is the versatility of your listening options. Unlike reading books, with audio files you can listen to them any time, any place through headphones without distractions. Whether you are on public transport, driving your own car, working at a desk or cleaning the house, you can listen to a book while you go. This has opened up a whole new world to people who have busy, hectic lifestyles but would love to stay up to date on the latest personal development information and ideas.
There seems to be something about the people who read these kinds of books: Those people who are always smiling, and seem completely unfazed by any obstacles that seem to get in their way. Being able to see the positive side to every situation is certainly a gift, and there are ten top self-help audio book downloads that can let you in on the secret too.
Maybe you are someone who has already read some self development books and love that feeling when the light bulb goes on and you learn and realize something new and inspiring? Or perhaps you have never read one before but would like to know what it’s all about? Either way, choosing one of these ten most popular self development authors as your first audio book is bound to leave you impressed and hungry for more.

Why Self Help Books Fail
27.04.2009
27.04.2009
If you are reading this you’re probably one of those people with a number of self help books that are currently accumulating dust in your bookshelf and self help ebooks that are filling up your computers memory, or you’re just curious of what I have to say. Either way I know you will agree with me.
First of, I’m not gonna claim to be an expert in this particular field because I am not, in fact I need help as well, badly.
I’ve read a number of self help books myself and those books that are accumulating dust in your bookshelf, I am sure you have read them too. You were inspired by them, you were moved by them, it even got you teary eyed at some point! But the question is, “why are you still the same old you?” If these books are so helpful, why are you still struggling? Makes sense right?
Now, let’s take a look at how we call these books. “Self Help” and let’s write that in reverse “Help Self” Wow! Now does that mean that I have to do something after reading the book? If these books are so powerful, I should be a changed man after reading them from cover to cover, right?
Wrong! Let me tell you something I found out about these books. First of all they are great and I like to thank all the people who wrote them and shared their experiences with us. But I tell you, not unless you have the determination and drive to make your life better everything in those books will be fictitious to YOU. Yes, It all goes down to “you” all the inspiration and all the knowledge you gained will all be wasted if you do not put them to use. They will be accumulating dust in your brains just like the books in your bookshelf. And you will still be living the same old life that you were trying to change or make better in the first place.
Now, let me ask you a question. “Do you really want to make your life better?” If your answer is no then stop reading and find yourself another article coz you are wasting your time my friend, If yes then do this! Let us do it together ok? I told you I need help too so I am doing this with you.
I want you to close your eyes and start looking at yourself. Assess yourself and think of the things that you are currently doing right now, once you have them, classify them into.
“Things that are greatly contributing to my life” and
“Things that are contributing less or things that are completely just wasting my time”.
And then concentrate on doing more of the things that are greatly contributing to your life and less of or totally eliminating those activities that does not. And then, make another list of the things that you know you should be doing to achieve more in your life like starting a business or getting a masters degree or just plainly looking for work and make an outline on how you plan to achieve these things. Make yourself a goal!
Come on, get a pen and paper and write down your goals. The achievable goals and the impossible goals! I wrote down mine just before I wrote this article. Write down how you plan to achieve these goals and share it to your family and friends so you’ll get all the support you need and everyday make an assessment of close you are in achieving your goals and ask yourself.
“What did I do today that contributed to my goal?” and shame on you if there is none.
Remember you have to stay focused, you have to have the perseverance and discipline so as not to stray from your goals, just think of the rewards that you will get once you’re there up top with everything that you could ever dream of.
So, lets stop reading and start making things happen! Ok? I know I’m gonna do it. I’m gonna write another article in the future sharing my success!
And I’ll be looking out for yours too.
Good Luck!

There is a growing trend in recent years of individuals opting for self help of troubling issues rather than seeking out a professional counselor. Until recently, this type of self therapy was mainly carried out by reading books and other resource materials on self help. These books covered anything from becoming successful in business to gaining more self esteem and overcoming childhood traumas. The movement of the self help books led into watching self help television programs. These included a wide variety of talk shows with Phil Donahue, Oprah and Dr. Phil, to name a few. From here, the self help trend has moved into the online world.
Now this is becoming a popular way for people to handle self help issues. The idea of turning to the internet for self help is appealing to most people because of their wanting to keep these sort of issues private. The thought of confiding in another individual, not to mention a therapist, evokes feelings of embarrassment and low self esteem. Most individuals would rather turn to a place where anonymity can be maintained. Self help web sites provide just that.
One of the biggest online self help websites is selfgrowth.com. Here an individual can find a wealth of information covering practically every topic known in regards to self help. There are article, web and expert directories available to point a user in the right direction. There are seven different sections pertaining to things like success skills, relationships, money, health, mental health, spirituality and diet. In addition to these detailed sections, a user is able to read recent self help newsletters and inspirational quotes. There are also discussion boards available where a user can read comments or participate in discussion groups if desired.
There are many websites online that tailor to the self help crowd. For users, this is the perfect way to deal with self help issues without the need to take the issues public. Online self help provides a way to medicate an emotional ailment without leaving the privacy or comforts of home.
